Leather Working
FAQ's
Where is your leather from?
I import all of my leather from Italy from a tannery called Badalassi Carlo. The scuffed leather is called Pueblo leather. I also use another smooth leather with the same color options and it is called Minerva Smooth leather. The leather I buy is also called vegetable tanned leather as opposed to the more widespread and cheaper chromium tanned leather.
How are your wallets stitched?
Every leather product I make is stitched by hand using a saddle stitch technique. I have been told that my wallets “must be machine sewn” because of the canted stitching lines. However, this is intentional and is caused by using a diamond-shaped punch. They are similar to forks with many flat and sharp teeth.
Do you do Repairs?
I do offer repairs at different rates depending on the operation. I can do anything from repairing straps to relining bags. One of the most common requests is applying a wallet or bag strap with an edge kote.
What are your earrings made from
I make my earrings from laser-cut hardwood. I start out making my designs on paper, digitize them, and take them to a laser cutter. Using a laser cutter allows me to make intricate designs that would be difficult to make by hand.
Some of the wood types I use:
- Walnut
- Paduek
- Purple Heart
- Maple
- Yellow Heart
Inventory
I try to keep at least 2 – 5 of everything is stock except for bags. Making bags costs quite a large amount, and keeping an inventory of them would not be economical for me. If you don’t see something in the shop that maybe you saw at a festival I was at or your interested in what I am currently working on, then feel free to contact me and I can send you more information.
