Introduction
This yard had a spigot that came out of the ground at about 4-5 inches, which is pretty bad because it makes mowing or having your yard mowed a hazard. So this job to spruce up the spigot with a pillar and insulating the spigot. The pilar is made from pine on a table saw, glued, nailed, caulked, and painted. The pipe from the ground needed to be adapted to PEX piping to get to the new spigot…
Something Goes Wrong
When removing the old spigot, I had to dig around the pipe and could hear an odd noise, so I turned the water on a little and was able to spot this leak. This metal pipe had just slowly deteriorated, so it too had to be replaced. I replaced the metal section so that it would change to PEX about 6 inches above ground so that no erosion could damage the crimps. After that it was simply insulating the pipes and staking the pillar into the ground.
